Buccaneer Outlook for 2009-10UW – Marinette Men’s Basketball team recorded its fourth consecutive winning season in 2008-09. They finished with a 16-10 record and were Region II Champions for a third consecutive year. The 2009-10 team features three returning players and plenty of new young talent. The Buccaneers will rely on all of these players to work toward another winning season. Ted Voss, Crivitz, is an all around athlete who will be counted on to be a leader on and off the court. As the starting point guard, everything begins with Voss. He is very good at getting to the basket and getting the ball to open teammates. Cody Lechleitner followed up a great career at Suring High School with a very good freshman season with the Buccaneers. Lechleitner’s strength is his outside shooting but he made great strides taking the ball to the basket last season. He will be a key player for the Bucs this season. Jorden Fifield played the second semester last year. He is also a very good outside shooter. Fifield has shown great leadership during the off season. If he plays solid defense, he will be a key contributor on the team. Lucas Shomin, Oconto Falls leads a talented group of post players for the Buccaneers. He is an excellent rebounder and will be a key offensive threat for the team. Kris Wilber, Suring returns to basketball after spending his freshman season with the UW – Oshkosh football team. Wilber brings that same winning attitude to the Bucs as his high school teammate Lechleitner. Kevin Betts, St. Thomas Aquinas is a strong inside player who can also step outside with his shot. Betts will be counted on for scoring and rebounding. Aaron Olson, Menominee, Michigan could be a surprise player for the Bucs. He is very athletic and will be asked to play in the post and on the perimeter. Reggie Noffke, Coleman brings some post-high school experience to the Buccaneers. He played one season at Marion College prior to serving his country in the armed forces. Noffke is very adept at getting to the basket and will be a key to the team’s success. Andy Augustine, Rapid River, Michigan will provide depth at the guard position. Andy is a great leaper and spent his high school career as a post player. He is being asked to make the transition to the perimeter in college.Alex Zielinski, Crivitz is coming off serious knee surgery. He is a solid player who could see some added playing time as the season progresses. Bob Walters, Peshtigo is a hard working kid who will provide backcourt support. Matt Meunier, Peshtigo is a spirited perimeter player who will work hard to help his team. |
