WHEELING -- The girls soccer team made its long-awaited debut Saturday morning an impressive one thanks to an 8-0 victory against invading Williamstown on the 16th Street pitch. The Maroon Knights struck just a couple of minutes into the game when senior Seneca Heller tallied. Despite coming up empty on several solid scoring opportunities, Central extended to a 3-0 lead at halftime thanks to goals by freshman Elah Konkle and sophomore Elizabeth Steele. In the second half, the Maroon Knights continued to play well. Heller found the back of the net, sophomore Rylee Wright scored twice in the second half. Madeline Steele and Loni Kusic rounded out the scoring. The Knights defense was solid, limiting Williamstown to only one real scoring chance and junior goal keeper Bella Fitzsimmons turned the shot away to keep the shutout intact. Central returns to action Tuesday at home against Brooke. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
